Carroll’s Caviness wins Three Rivers District wrestling title

Carroll County’s Elijah Caviness claimed a Three Rivers District wrestling championship on Feb. 3 at James River High School.

A junior, Caviness won the district championship at 138 pounds, where he pinned Alleghany’s Mason Crouse in 1:09 in the championship match. For the season, Caviness has a 22-2 record.

Three other Cavalier wrestlers finished second in the district championships. Trenton Burnette placed second at 113 pounds and is now 17-7 on the season, Jaden Poe finished second in the district at 120 pounds and is now 16-9 this year. Dustin Dalton has a 9-3 mark in 2017-2018 after finishing second at 152 pounds.

Carroll County’s Tyler Busick and Teague Henley both captured third-place district finishes. Busick defeated James Rivers’ Kahlique White 9-3 in the third-place match at 132 pounds. Busick is now 15-9 on the year. A freshman, Henley placed third in the 285-pound weight class after pinning Radford’s Ricky Burton in 1:33. Henley sports a 13-6 record for the season.

Carroll County’s Isaac Brown is now 10-8 for the year after placing fourth in the 106-pound division.

Alleghany won the team district title with 227.5 points. Glenvar was second with 135 points, followed by James River (108), Radford (91), Carroll County (88) and Floyd County (65).
