Carroll County’s football team placed two players on the All-Three Rivers District team and the good news is both have eligibility remaining for the Cavaliers.
Junior running back Cassell McMillian and junior defensive back Lance Rotenizer both earned spots on the All-Three Rivers District team. McMillian was honored as a second-team running back and Rotenizer was chosen to the second team as a defensive back.
A 5-8, 168-pound junior, McMillian led Carroll County’s ground game in 2017. McMillian led the team in just about every rushing category, including rushing attempts (82), rushing yards (447) and rushing touchdowns (5). He averaged 5.45 yards per rush for the season and also tied for the team lead in receptions with 10 catches for 117 yards. McMillian ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns in the season finale against James River, a 32-12 victory in Hillsville.
A 5-4, 154-pound junior, Rotenizer finished among the team leaders in almost every defensive category. Rotenizer tied for the team lead in passes broken up with five, had Carroll’s only blocked kick, and was second on the team in solo tackles (53) and total tackles (67.5). His 29 assisted tackles were the third-most for the Cavaliers in 2017. Rotenizer also recovered one fumble and recorded one tackle for loss.
